The New Life Home in Kibera
The "New Life Home", the home of the Brothers of the Missionaries of Charity, is located in Nairobi within the Kibera slum and houses approximately 30 Brothers who provide numerous services to the local community.
The Disabled
Inside the home, the Brothers host about 40 people with various disabilities. These individuals, abandoned by their families and society, would otherwise have no prospects of a future.
Basic Healthcare Services
The Brothers offer basic healthcare services; the house is equipped with a small infirmary, where four days a week the Brothers visit and treat over a hundred people. Additionally, twice a week, health education classes are held, and psychological support is provided to about 300 women.
The School
In Kibera, the Brothers run a school (located within the slum and divided into three different centers) where they offer the opportunity for about 350 boys and girls to attend preschool and primary school completely free of charge,
providing them with a hot meal every day (often the only one they have).
At the same time, the Brothers take care of the teachers' salaries, relying on Providence.
The Brothers visit all the families who request to enroll their children to personally verify their deep poverty conditions.
Believing that education is the only way to keep children off the streets, the Missionary Brothers also fund, through our donations, secondary school education for those boys and girls who wish to continue their studies.
Work
The Brothers offer local people the opportunity to work within the house in various roles such as washing, cooking, and caring for the disabled.
Services to the Community
The Brothers serve the local community in many other ways, such as distributing food or clothing to the most needy or periodically visiting families in particularly difficult situations to monitor their conditions and try to provide concrete help, especially concerning their children.
