Our One-Off Projects

In addition to the continuous projects that characterize the association, Accanto a Kibera also supports the Brothers on specific, limited-duration projects aimed at addressing specific needs.

Mama's Houses

This project is aimed at assisting mothers and their children who live without husbands in dilapidated shacks. These dwellings offer extremely small spaces, typically three to four square meters, often lacking basic services, windows, and sometimes electricity. Many of these women are unemployed but still face monthly rental costs of €20–€30, plus an additional €2 for electricity and €1 for the shared external toilet (on average, one latrine for every 1,200 people)."

"Thanks to the donations collected during the summer months of 2025, the Brothers' Congregation will purchase a compound of 10 rooms in Kibera in January 2026. These rooms, constructed with tuff stone walls (instead of the current sheet metal), will house 10 families. Living within a single compound is expected to foster solidarity and mutual support, ensuring that both children and adults are not alone in facing the harsh realities of life in the Kibera slum.

Adopt 1 square meter

The project addresses the need to pave the schoolyard at Isiolo, which spans an area of 4,200 square meters. Currently, the courtyard is covered by a layer of dust which turns into mud during the rainy season. This condition compromises access to classrooms and the kitchen, effectively rendering the school structure unusable."

"The project's goal is to ensure the school is always accessible, guaranteeing regular attendance and the provision of daily meals to the students."

"The total estimate for the work, which also includes the refurbishment of the male restrooms, amounts to € 65,000. To date, €15,000 has been raised. For this purpose, a fundraising campaign is active under the slogan 'Adopt 1 square meter', with a unit cost set at €15 (via GoFundMe).
