AAK Physiotherapy
The physiotherapy program began in 2024 with the funding of a physiotherapy and rehabilitation center in Isiolo to provide care for the 33 people with disabilities living in the community. Like all Missionaries of Charity Brothers' communities, the Isiolo mission cares for dozens of adult men with disabilities who have been abandoned by their families and by society. In 2025, the initiative was expanded through the involvement of an external physiotherapist who provided on-site treatment to the mission's residents two to three times per week.
Starting in the second half of 2025, a close collaboration was established with the Coordinator of the Physiotherapy Degree Program at the University of Turin. Together with a group of students, a comprehensive assessment of each resident's specific needs was conducted in order to design personalized rehabilitation plans, which were subsequently implemented on site.
This collaboration led to the creation of the "Physiotherapy in Isiolo" project. In July and August 2026, the mission welcomed three volunteers: Sara and Francesca, two final-year Physiotherapy students, and Fabiola, a resident physician specializing in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. Through their expertise and dedication, they contributed to the delivery of individualized rehabilitation programs and to improving the quality of life of the people with disabilities living in the community.
